Shannon Leonard, RN, MBA, CPCO, CHPC, CHC

Chief Compliance Officer

As director of the Corporate Compliance Program, Leonard works to prevent legal violations or unethical conduct, develops education for team members to foster relationships with physicians and management, audits and monitors internal controls, and manages all issues submitted to the compliance office.

Leonard is a registered nurse who holds a baccalaureate degree in healthcare leadership as well as a Master of Business Administration. In his career, Leonard held lead nursing positions such as nurse manager for heart cath recovery, Director of Cardiology, and Chief Nursing Officer at Advent Health in Orlando, Florida.

Leonard joined the Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) team in 2011 as the Director of Quality and Hospital Relations. In November of 2014, he was promoted to the Director of Hospital Operations at CIS, managing cardiovascular labs in each CIS partner hospital, as well as, the coordination, implementation, improvement, and success of the hospital-related and medical staff quality programs. In this role, he was also responsible for the oversight of outcomes data management, analysis, and quality improvement strategies of the CIS partner-hospital co-management agreements.

Leonard is certified as a Professional Healthcare Compliance Officer by the American Academy of Professionals, and is also certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance by the Health Care Compliance Association. In 2015, he was awarded the CIS Mary Domangue Award, which is presented to the CIS team leader that most exemplifies the high standards of patient care, compassion and dedication, showing that he carries on the mission, vision and values held true by the staff and physicians of CIS.
